This post concerns a new option I’m offering at HoyaCuttings.com: lightly rooted Hoya cuttings grown in tree fern. I’ll share why I decided to add this option, how they’re rooted, and why it’s an excellent choice for buyers looking for less stressful propagation experiences.

  • What’s New: Lightly rooted Hoya cuttings in small cups with tree fern.
  • Why: Many buyers asked for cuttings with some roots, not freshly cut.
  • Details: These cuttings have been rooting for several weeks, making them less stressful to transition into new setups.
  • Supplies: Small 1 oz cups are simple, convenient, and easy to ship. Cuttings are rooted in pure tree fern fiber.

Today, I wanted to share something new I’ve been working on for my shop, HoyaCuttings.com: lightly rooted Hoyas in smaller containers using tree fern fiber as media.

I recently posted a few small Hoya plants and lightly rooted cuttings in the shop, and some sold almost immediately. Thank you to everyone who snagged one! I’ve received messages from many people who have asked for small cuttings with some already developed roots rather than freshly cut ones.

To meet this demand, I offered lightly rooted cuttings I’ve been rooting for several weeks. These are grown in small 1 oz cups using tree fern fiber as the rooting medium. While the cups may not look the most professional (I’m still searching for small transparent pots in the right size), they’re practical and make packing for shipping much easier. The new roots can be seen. Tree fern keeps the newly formed roots safe and happy. The sticky label on the cup could be reused to place it on a plant tag.

This setup also reduces stress on the plant, giving buyers a head start in establishing their cuttings. It’s a simple but effective solution until I can upgrade to more polished containers. If someone can recommend a good substitution for the cups, please feel free to leave a comment.

I’m excited to offer these lightly rooted cuttings as a convenient option. Some of the plants will be even cheaper than fresh cuttings. If you’re looking for a small, rooted Hoya to add to your collection, check out the shop—I’ll keep adding more as they’re ready!
